We have over 100 silver birches, rare and exotic cold climate plants including camellias, mollis azaleas, rhododendrons, tree peony, hydrangeas, gardenia, weeping maples, kalmia, apple blossom clematis and azaleas. Drifts of hellebores are everywhere.

Wander through the orchard and pick fruit when in season. You will find oranges, mandarins, lemons, pears, plums, figs, nashi pears four varieties of apples and persimmon.

Explore the observatory with the Meade telescope, have a game of chess on the giant chess board or just relax in the spa after a day of exploring this beautiful area.

 

Falls creek

Falls Creek is Victoria’s largest alpine ski resort located just 30 kms from Lothlorien. For alpine skiers and boarders there are 14 lifts and over 90 runs to choose from, while cross country skiers can enjoy a network of 65 kilometers of groomed trails. The resort includes many restaurants and bars, a supermarket, Day Spa, snow gear rental and retail outlets. Falls Creek hosts Kangaroo Hoppet - an annual international cross country ski marathon. Mount Beauty River Walk

4km/1 hour return- The track starts at the commencement of Embankment Drive, off the Bogong High Plains Road at the entrance to Mount Beauty. This sealed track crosses the Pondage spillway and then meanders along the west branch of the Kiewa River to Pebble Beach.

 

Mount Beauty Swimming Pool

Mount Beauty Swimming Pool, located on Pool Road opposite the Post Office, has three solar heated pools, a toddler, intermediate and 33m main pool. There are shady lawns, lots of pool toys and a well stocked kiosk. Early morning lap swimming on weekdays, two lap lanes at other times, weekly swimming lessons for all ages, a Learn To Swim Campaign in January, and twice a week "Seniors' Hour" are some of our special activities to promote health and fitness.

Mount Beauty Recreation Reserve

There is an excellent BMX track and a skateboard park near the pondage BBQ area in Mount Beauty. Situated by the lake, off Lakeside Avenue, it is near toilets, BBQs, seating and parking and next to the Library, BMX track, child care centre and the Mount Beauty sports ground. Great for a day's activity.

 

River fishing

The Kiewa River rises in forest in the Alpine National Park as the east and west branches and joins on the narrow flood plain at Mount Beauty township. The river then flows through farmland with the valley widening in the lower reaches, providing ample opportunity to access the river and throw a line in. Rivers in these areas have excellent in stream habitat with the predominant species being brown and rainbow trout.
